Shivapuri Nagi Gumba
Shivapuri Nagi Gumba stands out as an excellent and brief hiking trail suitable for beginners. I personally opt for this route for a morning walk at least once every month. Simply park your vehicle outside Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, acquire Rupees 100 for entrance ticket, and stroll for one hour to reach Nagi Gumba.
Nagi Gumba, situated on Shivapuri Hill, serves as a Buddhist Monastery exclusively dedicated to the nuns. As of October 2023, approximately 200 nuns inhabit various quarters within Nagi Gumba. Individuals aspiring to become nuns, regardless of their nationality, can avail themselves of the opportunity to study Buddhadharma, Sutra, and Mantra. Additionally, they can undertake three-year, six-year, and nine-year retreats.
Before ascending the steep stone stairs to Gumba, enjoy an easy walk. Walking the trails is also delightful, as you listen to the soothing sounds of birds, explore shortcuts, and take on adventurous routes. Upon reaching Gumba, it provides a panoramic view of Kathmandu and the Himalayas on clear days.
Within Shivapuri, experts categorize trees based on factors such as type, family, and unique characteristics. Affixing labels to the trees facilitate the understanding and efficient management of the ecosystem’s biodiversity, ecology, and resources.
Clear navigation markers guided the hiking trail, keeping it clean and well-maintained.
