From Wikipedia

Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, established in 2002, is the ninth national park in Nepal. Located in the mid-hills on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu Valley, it is named after Shivapuri Peak, which stands at an altitude of 2,732 meters (8,963 feet). The park covers an area of 159 km2 (61 sq mi) across the districts of Kathmandu, Nuwakot, and Sindhupalchowk, encompassing 23 Village Development Committees. To the west, the protected area extends to the Dhading District. Here is the list of hiking destinations inside Park:

Jamacho

One of the closest getaways from Kathmandu is a trek to Jamacho Hill, standing at an elevation of 2130 meters above sea level. This hill serves as a Buddhist shrine, featuring a stupa and a quaint monastery. Ascending the watchtower rewards you with breathtaking 360-degree vistas of the surrounding landscapes, mountains, and the Kathmandu Valley. The peak is adorned with numerous prayer flags, enhancing the scenic beauty of the stupa and monastery.

Chisapani

Chisapani (2160m) is a 5 to 6-hour uphill hike from Sundarijal, making it one of the nearest and most popular hiking destinations. The village offers breathtaking views of the Annapurna, Everest, and Manaslu-Ganesh Himal ranges, as well as a closer look at the Langtang range. Additionally, it is connected to Nagarkot as the second-day itinerary of the Sundarijal – Chisapani – Nagarkot hiking route.

Bishnudwar

Bishnudwar serves as the source of the Bishnumati River, a significant waterway in Kathmandu with deep religious significance. The name “Bishnumati” translates to “beloved of Lord Vishnu,” and this river holds sacred importance for both Hindus and Buddhists alike. The trail to Bishnudwar was not for the faint of heart, but it was perfect for a first timer or a lazy hiker. First half of the trail was straight road no hurdles, but we found ourselves in awe of the natural beauty that surrounded us. These first-timers found the uphill section of the trail in the second half tiring.

Nagi Gumba

Nagi Gumba provides an excellent and brief hiking trail suitable for beginners. It stands out as a Buddhist Monastery exclusively dedicated to the nuns. As of October 2023, approximately 200 nuns occupy various quarters within Nagi Gumba. Individuals aspiring to become nuns, regardless of their nationality, can seize the opportunity to study Buddhism, Sutra, and Mantra. Additionally, they can engage in three-year, six-year, and nine-year retreats.

Tarevir

Tarevir, located on the outskirts of Shivapuri National Park, does not impose an entrance fee. Nevertheless, if our plan is to embark on a hike from within the national park, we need to acquire tickets.
